Memphis

We are home from Memphis and had a great time. I don't know if I'll ever do both flyball and agility on the same weekend again though! All in all it was a good weekend. Klepto carried her ball every time but one. She got a new personal best with a pass of 4.010.

In agility, Ouija won Advanced Jumpers both days and finished her AJ title! On to Masters jumpers now. Klepto weaved! She got a 2nd place and a Q in Starters pairs (parnter was Hala), a 2nd and a Q in Starters Snooker, and a 3rd and a Q in Starters Gamblers. Pyro got a 1st and a Q in Starters Snooker, a 2nd and a Q in Starters Standard, and a 1st and a Q in Starters Gamblers to finish her SG title!

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!

AKC has decided to allow mix breeds to compete in obedience, agility, and rally! It will not be effective until April of next year though. Ouija can't wait to play agility more often.

Unfortunately, they are requiring that mixes compete in a seperate class. (Ouija is assuming that this is because the AKC is scared that she will beat all the purebred dogs). Oh well, Ouija will get to play agility more often, which she will LOVE! Can't wait til next April!

GSLAC AKC Agility

On Friday, Klepto was entered in Novice FAST and Open JWW. Pyro was entered in Open FAST. None of the runs went well. We forgot the camera on Friday, so fortunately I won't have to share these "ugly" runs with everyone.

Saturday went better. Pyro and Chris started off the day with a Q in Open FAST for Pyro's first OF leg. Despite Pyro and Chris getting tangled up after the A-Frame, they ended up in 3rd place.

Klepto started the day with a Q in Novice FAST to earn her second NF leg. We had some weave trouble and didn't quite get the opening that I had planned.

Weave problems continued in Open JWW. After trying again and again and again, we finally completed the weave poles and quickly left the ring to have a party. Klepto Open JWW 4-11-09

FAST was not offered on Sunday, so Klepto was only entered in Open JWW. The opening went very well. The weave poles were again a problem. I don't know why she couldn't weave this weekend.

GRCGSL AKC Agility

Well, the rain managed to hold off until Sunday night and it actually turned out to be a decent weekend. Klepto was entered in Open Jumpers on Friday and Sunday. I did not enter her Saturday because I had to work. We will start with Friday. Friday's run did not go so well. Klepto missed her weaves and did not finish them until the third attempt. After that I totally messed her up and we decided to leave. There was a positive though, no bars came down!

Sunday went better. I started out with a Novice Standard run with my friend's BC Cherish. Cherish went clean and won 20" Novice B.

Next was Klepto's Open JWW run. I was out of position for jump 3 and caused a refusal. After that we got it together and Klepto hit her weave entry but popped out. I put her back in and she popped out at pole 10. I put her back in and she popped at 10 again! UGH! After that I decided to keep going and the rest of the course was awesome! I have to get Klepto to weave more consistently at trials. More proofing drills for us...

The last class of the day was Novice JWW. Cherish took 1st place in Nov B 20" despite my handling mistake that cost her a refusal at the last jump.

You have to be behind the dog to do a rear cross...who knew! Oh well, despite my ineptness Cherish Q'd and we had a fun weekend with friends and dogs

We're Home!

The Susan Salo seminar was great. I think we all learned a lot. Three days just doesn't seem long enough to soak it all in. I think we will have to go to another of Susan's seminars.

We learned lots of great jumping grids to teach the dogs how to judge distance and the set point. We also learned some techniques to teach the dogs to lenghten and compress their stride. Weight shift was also covered. Weight shift seems to be the thing our flyball dogs don't do. They power forward without any elevation.

We came home with many grids to work on and pages of notes. We have decided that each Thrusday we will get together and work on the grids. Can't wait til Thrusday!

Susan Salo!

This weekend Chris and I are taking Klepto and Prank to a Susan Salo seminar! Yeah! I can't wait. It will be so much fun. Cathy, Cindy, Denise and Deb are going too! I promise to write about it when we get home. Oh, and the other good news is that our new video camera should be coming today!
